Creating A Trauma-Informed Community
LETS, LLC is so committed to empowering citizens to create a trauma-informed community that we offer this workshop at a reduced cost as part of our social responsibility to our country.
Creating A Trauma-Informed Community trains members of the community to identify the societal effects of ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences) in their community and assists them in developing strategies to reduce these effects.
(This training is easily funded through grants and our staff will assist you in writing the grant application.)
Team composition
The team can be an extension of a city or town government, police departments, fire departments, or it can be a group of citizens wanting to make a positive impact in their neighborhood. The minimum number of participants is 7 and the maximum number of participants is 14. The only requirement to be a participant is a letter of recommendation from a city or town leader (not necessarily a government employee) that cites your level of involvement in the community.
Pre-training activity
We conduct an online survey (hard copies are made available to those who do not have access to the online survey) with the team members and key stakeholders in the community to identify the top two issues that need to be addressed to improve the quality of life in the community or neighborhood. LETS, LLC aggregates the data from the survey. In some circumstances, LETS, LLC will conduct an onsite visit to gather more specific data.
Training event
The two-day workshop is customized to address the top two issues identified in the survey results. The core components of the training include the following:
- overviews of ACEs and the characteristics of a trauma-informed community;
- presentations of content pertinent to the top two issues identified from the survey and how they interact with ACEs;
- community mobilization theory;
- process of change;
- responsibilities of a change agent;
- creative think tank/problem solving model;
- strategic planning session;
- marketing strategies;
- identifying implementation resources; and
- evaluation/quality assurance techniques.
Paige Thomas, MA is the lead trainer of this workshop. She has in excess of 10 years conducting community mobilization workshops and/or activities and has witnessed positive results in low to high income communities.
